Cannot browse a secure web page

Problem

You can browse most sites but when you try to access any secure page, such as online banking or login into your Hotmail account or Yahoo you get page cannot be displayed. Your Hotmail or Yahoo are not down because you friends or work can access there accounts.

Reason

This is because secure sites use https instead of http to access your account details. Your computer is blocking the port for https  most probably in your installed firewall or your router.

Solution

https uses port 443 where as http uses port 80. You will probably find that port 80 is allowed on your firewall or router but not 443.

To add port 443 in Norton Internet Security

1. Open Norton Internet Security
2. Click Options
3. Click Internet Security
4. Firewall Tab
5. Go to "http port list" section
6. Click Add and select 443
